Marriage & Death Records
Marriage and death records are public records before July 1, 1997. A certified copy, as of October 1, 2009, may be obtained for $20 with a completed application form. Visit the website for Vital Records, at the CT Department of Public Health website for restrictions after July 1, 1997, when certain information must be redacted to the public. A government-issued photo I.D. is required.
Birth Certificates
Birth certificates in the State of Connecticut are confidential records, except for those records over 100 years old. A certified copy is $20, and a completed application and a valid photo I.D. must be attached to the request.
Birth certificates less than 100 years old may be accessed by the following:
- the person whose birth is recorded, if the person is 18 or older
- spouse
- parents, grandparents, legal guardians
- children, if the child is 18 or older
- person authorized by court order
- attorneys and title examiners representing the person or such person's parent, guardian, child, or surviving spouse
- agents of a state or federal agency as approved by the Department of Public Health with proof of authorization
- genealogists
